Newsletter Testimonials

“I would like to provide some feedback on the excellent customer service that I received this week from the Oshawa Branch. I don’t ever recall a loan process that occurred so quickly and to my convenience. Kudos to you and your organization for the process, best practices and people you have in place to make this all happen. Once again, thank you and I look forward to working with the Credit Union again in the future.”

"Thank you for advocating for me. You are an asset to the Ontario Public Service! I am a very happy member of The Credit Union. This latest experience has proven what I already knew, that switching to The Credit Union is an appropriate and reasonable response to years of dismay and helplessness felt by many people in dealing with the big banks. I do all my banking with you now, and I advocate for you wholeheartedly, communicating my positive experience as good advice to colleagues who might benefit by being treated better by their financial institution."

"A member was looking for a loan to purchase a new car. Both The Credit Union and car company rates were competitive. We were able to show the member how she could manage her loan repayments easier with The Credit Union. She could make extra payments or increase her payments at any time. We provided a detailed plan on when the loan would be paid and were able to get her a cheque for the loan in an hour."

"Recently, a member was in and we got chatting about her upcoming Europe trip. I reviewed her member information and noticed she still had an old debit card, without a CHIP. I asked if she was planning on using it while travelling and she said of course, it was her only way of accessing funds. Since I knew many European ATM machines and POS terminals only accept CHIP cards, I issued her a new debit card and changed her daily limits so she could travel with ease."

"A husband and wife came to us recently because they wanted advice funding their children’s university education. With one child heading out of country and one staying within the province, they knew it would be expensive. Without RESPs or designated savings they were having a tough time figuring it out. As the members had paid off their home, we were able to use their house as security and gave them a LOC to pay tuition and living expenses for their children. Smart borrowing with a plan."

"Recently a member who lives over 2,000 km from our nearest branch emailed us asking for assistance. They had outstanding balances on high interest rate credit cards and wanted to pay them off with a lower rate loan from The Credit Union. Traveling to the branch made no sense so we faxed them their application. Once the application was approved the money was deposited directly into their account. The member paid off their high rate cards and was thrilled that we could do it all remotely.”

"When a member’s spouse recently lost their job, they were devastated and very worried about meeting their monthly expenses, especially mortgage payments and daycare costs. With no balance on their Line of Credit (LOC), they used the LOC to make their mortgage payments and a savings account to cover the cost of daycare. After two months, the spouse found a new job and we showed the couple how to pay off their LOC in six months and start building up their savings again."

"Recently one of our members had been laid off from her position causing her to start retirement earlier than planned.Naturally she was concerned she would not have enough money coming in to make ends meet so with her financial information in hand we helped assess her pension, government benefits and investments. Together we were able to come up with a plan so she would have sustainable income for life. Gone is fear and uncertainty as our member enters this new phase of her life with enthusiasm and clarity.”

“When a member’s cash flow started getting tight they asked us how to improve their financial situation. They needed debt consolidation, but a large part of their debt was a mortgage at another financial institution. We researched the penalty to break their current mortgage and found that even with the penalty, our 4-year mortgage term made more sense. We got the member out of their old mortgage and put $600 back into their monthly cash flow without adding any further time to the amortization. The member will save thousands of dollars in interest, have more cash for savings and peace of mind. The member told us they would now be able to sleep better at night with their new mortgage and improved financial plan.”

"For many people, the holidays can be a time of over-spending. A member who had acquired a large amount of debt on retail cards in December came to us for help. Not only did they over-spend but it was also on cards that carry extremely high interest rates. Once we started talking we realized it made the most sense to consolidate the retail card balances and their large VISA balance into one personal loan. By doing a complete debt consolidation our member will save on interest and pay off their debt much faster."
