Protecting your privacy has always been part of Ontario Civil Service Credit Union's business principles. Your credit union is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the confidentiality, accuracy and security of your personal information. Whether we collect, use, retain or disclose your personal information while conducting business, we will do our utmost to protect your privacy. We are also committed to the development of policies, procedures and services that respect and maintain your privacy rights. We want to build a lasting relationship with you and understand your financial service needs. In order to provide you with products, services and advice, we require specific personal information. That information varies depending on the product or service you desire. Aside from your name, address and telephone number, this information can include your age, identification numbers (i.e. driver's license or social insurance number), use of accounts and credit history as well as the relationship of others linked to your account. We obtain this information from you directly and from the product and service arrangements you have made with or through us. The Credit Union may collect information from you, from product and service arrangements you have made with or through us, from credit bureaus and other financial institutions, and from the references you have provided us. Your rights and choices about your personal information The Credit Union will use your personal information to share ideas about products and services we feel may benefit you. If you would prefer not to receive further product information and instead are content to limit your personal information use to credit union products you currently possess, please let us know at any time by giving us a call at 1.888.516.6664 or 416.314.6772, sending us an email at privacy@mycreditunion.ca or mailing us a letter. Using your social insurance number When we obtain a report and update your information with a credit bureau, your Social Insurance Number (SIN) is the best way to make sure the information actually refers to you. Wrong information can lead us into making wrong conclusions about you when you request credit from us. You should be aware, though, that using your SIN this way is voluntary for you and if you choose not to give us your SIN, this by itself will not prevent you from getting credit. While the law requires us to ask for your SIN when you open an account, which earns income, we need to get your consent to use it in any other way. You can withdraw your consent after you've given it You can limit or withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual obligations, by giving us reasonable notice and provided the consent does not relate to certain information required for credit arrangements as explained below. If you have a loan, guarantee a loan or have some other credit arrangement with us, you may not withdraw your consent to our ongoing collection, use or disclosure of information about you in connection with such loan or credit arrangement during its term. You may not withdraw your consent to the ongoing disclosure of your personal information to credit bureaus, even after the loan or credit arrangement has been retired. This is necessary to help maintain the accuracy, completeness and integrity of the information held by credit bureaus. The Privacy Officer is responsible for monitoring information collection and data security. The Privacy Officer must ensure that all credit union employees receives appropriate training on privacy issues and on their responsibilities under our Privacy Code. The Privacy Officer also handles all privacy inquiries and personal information access requests under our Privacy Code.
